Eli's first stitches

Last week we had an exciting night! Eli was playing and running around in his footie jammies when he slipped and hit his head on the corner of the wall leading into the kitchen. As soon as he hit his forehead split open and started bleeding- a lot. I know head wounds bleed but it was hard to see where he was hurt with blood running down his face (nice and graphic huh) ;) Bryan scooped him up and we brought him into the bathroom and held a hand towel on his head to stop the bleeding. Turns out he wasn't bleeding anywhere else so we got him cleaned up. His forehead stopped bleeding pretty quickly and I could see it was an insta care trip for us. He didn't have any signs of a concussion so I wasn't too worried. He was a happy boy the whole drive and in the waiting room. The nurse came out and put some numbing gel on hi forehead to prep for stitches. We played and read books til it was time to stitch him up. NOT FUN. My wiggly busy boy did not like being held down. After 4 stitches he was covered in sweat and exhausted from crying. But it had to be done. He fell asleep in the car in the way home from being so worn out.

He did so well with not picking at his stitches. He didnt like having a band aid on so he wore his battle wound proudly. I took the stitches out myself a week later because I did not want to go through the trauma of holding him down again. Easy peasy. He didn't even notice!

Now he's back to his normal happy self with a bit of a scar :)

  1. what a great story and what a little trooper he was to get a bonk on the head and then have it taken care of and not fuss too much. as long as he can still go outside and play then those ole stitches aren't going to stop him for long. good for you for being so calm and not putting a tourniquet around his neck in a panic to stop stop the bleeding. neither of you passed out either so you are a pretty calm couple. glad it is healing up so well.......
