Eli's first stitches

Last week we had an exciting night! Eli was playing and running around in his footie jammies when he slipped and hit his head on the corner of the wall leading into the kitchen. As soon as he hit his forehead split open and started bleeding- a lot. I know head wounds bleed but it was hard to see where he was hurt with blood running down his face (nice and graphic huh) ;) Bryan scooped him up and we brought him into the bathroom and held a hand towel on his head to stop the bleeding. Turns out he wasn't bleeding anywhere else so we got him cleaned up. His forehead stopped bleeding pretty quickly and I could see it was an insta care trip for us. He didn't have any signs of a concussion so I wasn't too worried. He was a happy boy the whole drive and in the waiting room. The nurse came out and put some numbing gel on hi forehead to prep for stitches. We played and read books til it was time to stitch him up. NOT FUN. My wiggly busy boy did not like being held down. After 4 stitches he was covered in sweat and exhausted from crying. But it had to be done. He fell asleep in the car in the way home from being so worn out.

He did so well with not picking at his stitches. He didnt like having a band aid on so he wore his battle wound proudly. I took the stitches out myself a week later because I did not want to go through the trauma of holding him down again. Easy peasy. He didn't even notice!

Now he's back to his normal happy self with a bit of a scar :)

Play dough!

Eli LOVES play dough. It will keep him entertained quietly in the high chair for 15-30 minutes. It's a nice mommy break too.  I have made several different batches of play dough and finally found my favorite. I prefer to make my own because Eli mixes all the colors anyway so it's easier to make new batches with bright colors, and I hate the smell of store bought play dough. Eeeww

One recipe is 2 parts corn startch to one part cheapo hair conditioner. This was so soft to play with but got pretty crumbly by the time Eli was done playing.

This recipe is in the pictures below. It doesn't smell one bit, is really soft but has the exact same texture as the store bought. When I made it for some reason it was a bit more like frosting so I added 1/2 cup more of flour and it was perfect.

1 cup flour
1/2 cup salt
2 tbs cream of tarter
1 tbs oil
1 cup boiling water (with food coloring mixed in)

Mix all up (add flour if needed) and enjoy!!!

Temple Square 2013

One word for this year's visit to the lights on temple square. COLD. Like 15• cold. We tried to bundle up but took turns walking around so Eli could stay warm in the visitors center.

Eli thought the chunks of ice were the coolest things in the world!

What an incredible temple. To think of how they built it so many years ago is amazing. Spending it with my boys and best friend was wonderful. Such a special spirit there that inspires me to be better.

18 Months Young

Although Eli won't be 18 months until December 30th he had his check up
This week. Everything is great! He was 22.8 pounds. 9% for height and 12% for weight so he's healthy but little.

He has 8 teeth and just cut a molar. He sleeps through the night and takes a 3 hour nap everyday. Woo hoo! He's so fun and is talking and learning so much everyday.

We discussed that he only likes baby food and doesn't like much people food. He seems to have a texture issue with a lot of food and is more picky than a few months ago so we have an appointment with an occupational therapist to give us ideas to do at home to help Him try new foods   I think it will be really good.  He likes a few odd things like tomatoes and olives but those don't have many calories. ;)

Date Night!

Last night Bryan and I got to go on a grown up date! We both read and loves the Hunger Games books and couldn't wait to see the movie. This was the first time in over a year that we went to a movie! So we splurged and bought over priced, greasy, buttery, delicious popcorn :)

It was a really fun night and Eli had a blast playing with the sitter. The night was a success!!

5 Fact Friday

1. Sew sew sew. That's what I've been doing. Non stop! Well not quite. Eli doesn't let me sew much when he's awake. He's been very needy/clingy. So we have been doing play dates with friends to keep him busy then I can sew when he naps.

I've been busy with Christmas cardigans. They are so cute and fun to make. I love seeing little ones in them!

2. Christmas is here and it makes my heart happy! Plus we got just a touch of snow today to make it official.

3. Exactly one month til I am home and get to celebrate my birthday. 26.... Weird

4. Eli is growing so fast. I haven't updated about him much, I almost can't keep up with him! He's 17 months, almost 22 pounds, 8 teeth (no molars yet), says a few words but mostly speaks his own language, wears 12-18 month clothes, and is so so fun.  He helps clean, wants to help with whatever we're doing, is so fun to play with and is finally sleeping and eating great. (About time!) :)

5. We are having a mini thanksgiving this Saturday! It'll be fun to celebrate a holiday at home

Little Bit Of Lately

I've been crazy busy with my Etsy shop the past couple weeks so I haven't taken nearly as many pictures as I should have.

I've been trying to balance sewing, cooking, cleaning, and giving Eli attention. It's tough! Good thing he's such a fun little guy. It makes a messy house not worth cleaning when I could play with him all afternoon.
"Give monkey loves"

(Guess he got hungry)

I get my quickest sewing done when he is doing this:
And just a few silly shots for ya:

Fall Family Pictures

A friend from college took some family pictures for us a couple weeks ago. Ei fell asleep in the car and woke up a monster! So we were lucky to get any pictures with him not crying. Oh boy ;)

Enjoy!
