Back to School

Bryan started school today with his new kids!
He's a handsome teacher.

Everything in our house is broken.
Garbage disposal.
Sewing machine.  again.
I think thats it but it feels like everything is.

It rained and thundered and lightning-ed last night.  I loved it.
The news said Utah is the second dryest state second only to New Mexico.
Dryer than Arizona.  Sheesh.

Get me outta here :)

Sweatin For Sarah!!

Today Bryan and I completed our first 5k together!! I have not run that far  (a whole 3.5 miles) in 5 years so this was a big deal.  It was Sweatin For Sarah who is my cousin Dan's incredible wife who is fighting cancer.

We headed up to Sugar House in Salt Lake area and got our T-shirts and numbers.  I saw my other cousin (who is Dan's sister) and her husband and three kids.  I waved at her and she waved back but didn't realize it was family!  It took a few seconds for it to click :) We had a fun time visiting with them.

Bryan said the 3.5 miles went by fast... but i thought it was very long! But we did it together without stopping (except for sweaty hugs for Dan and Sarah at the 1/2 way point where she was waiting).  We came in at....dare I say.... 35:08.  haha.  that's about a 10.5 minute mile :)

This is us.. post race :)
When Sarah came through the finish line (she couldn't run but still crossed after we were lined up)  we all let go of our purple balloons!

Sarah was so sweet and thankful that we made it out to support her and help with the financial burden of the medical bills.

This is Sarah and Dan's new baby, Sam.

And here is Dan with Sam.
There was a guy from So You Think You Can Dance who did a routine for us.  I can't remember who they said he was but that was fun to watch.

I love you Sarah and you are so incredibly strong!!  I admire your inner and outer strength, and your determination to be happy and fight this battle.  I love you.

Sam was pretty tired after all this business!

2nd Anniversary!!

I surprised Bryan for our second anniversary and took him to a cute little Bed and Breakfast that I had reserved a month before.  I had to pack super quick while he was in the shower just before we left so he wouldn't know what was happening.  Then I told him we were going for a drive and gave him directions to follow (with an undisclosed location).  We ended up at the cutest B&B that was built in 1890!!  I had our clothes, temple clothes, and lots of snacks all ready to go.  Here is our room:
This is the original chandelier from when the house was built.  If only that lamp could tell stories!

This was the first house built in this subdivision. We went for a walk that evening and there were soo many awesome houses built in the late 1800's and early 1900's.  They were beautiful.

And of course a Bed and Breakfast comes with a delicious meal!

The next day we went to the Salt Lake Temple to do a session.  We needed 4 dollars to park, but neither of us brought dollar bills.  We scrounged up our change from under the seat, in the cup holder, and my purse and came out with almost enough!!

After the temple we ate a very yummy lunch at the Lion House Pantry resturant which is part of the Beehive House that Brigham Young built in 1865.

We stopped briefly at the museum next to the Family History Center.  Here is a replica of the sun stone on the Nauvoo temple.  There is an original at the Smithsonian.  Very Cool!  I have been in the Nauvoo temple, but someday Bryan and I will get to go together.

These are the death masks from when Joseph and Hyrum were killed.  Very interesting to see all this great church history.
I love to see the temple and I'm so grateful I married my best friend for eternity.  We're a great match and I am excited for the years to come!!!

I need Fall

I don't love 95 degree weather.  In fact I really don't like it.  Its so hot, and makes me feel yucky and lazy.  Is it fall yet?

please?!

foot ball games. crunchy leaves. evening walks. chilly air. apple cider. pumpkins. sweaters. decorating.

only a couple more months :) Maybe i'll start early

Dreamsicle Cookies

Orange Dreamsicle Cookies

2 1/4 c. flour

3/4 tsp. baking soda

1/2 tsp. salt

1 c. (2 sticks) unsalted butter, room temperature

1/2 c. sugar

1/2 c. light brown sugar

1 egg

1 tsp. vanilla

1 1/2 - 2 Tbl. grated orange zest

1 1/2 c. white chocolate chips

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Combine flour, baking soda and salt; set aside. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and both sugars until light and fluffy. Add the egg and vanilla and mix until combined. Add the orange zest. Gradually add the flour mixture and beat thoroughly. Stir in the white chocolate chips. Using a small ice cream scoop, drop dough onto a lightly greased cookie sheet. Bake 10-11 minutes. Yield: around 30 cookies.

These are wonderful cookies.  By far my new favorite recipe!!!!

And Second place goes to......

Tonight I went to the Salt Lake County Fair with Stephanie.  I entered a few things in, but didn't expect to win any ribbons.  We headed over to the quilt section and I found my first quilt!!
See the pastel plaid quilt behind me.  See the fourth place ribbon pinned to it?  That's mine.
Close up of the quilt (That third place ribbon is somebody else's.)
Then I found my second quilt i've ever done.  The pastel quilt was my very first one.  The red and white one is a bit smaller, but I really enjoyed making it.
 I got third place!!

Steph and I walked through the animals, the booths, and the photography then headed home. We had just pulled out of the parking lot when I realized I entered my christmas stockings but forgot to look for them.  We quickly turned around and headed back.  I debated not turning around to find them, but i'm glad I did, and that Steph was willing to tag along :)
 Second place on those puppies!!
When I found the stockings they were turned the other way so the back was showing, not the quilting.  I flipped them the other way.  It made me a little sad that they were covered up, but hopefully they can stay right side up now.

Moment of truth, all though I did receive 2nd, 3rd, and 4th place, I think some of these categories only had 3 or 4 entries.  Which means I got 2nd... or last.  haha! There were a few entries with honorable mention, and only a couple without ribbons, so i'll be proud of mine.  Bryan compares it to playing Monopoly when you get 2nd place in the beauty contest, and there is only two of you playing!  It was like that.  But I will be proud of my ribbons, even if they are last place.

Tye Dye Adventures with Denise!

I realized after our evening of tye dying that I didn't take any pictures of the two of us.  Silly silly.  But here are a few pictures of our shirts!

1. Get a white shirt, and dampen it.
 2. Twirl it and tie it with rubber bands
 3. play in the grass and tye dye!
 4.  Let soak overnight then wash.  Look at this fabulous-ness!
5. Wear on  a double date roller skating with Denise and Chad!

Brain Lapse

Last night I layed in bed for an hour and a half trying to fall asleep.
I thought of lots of different blog posts I was going to write about today.
Today came and my mind went blank.
Bryan and I like to call them brain farts.

Work today was crummy.
My boss was mean.  Really mean.
No boss should say those things to their employees who work their butts off.
Seriously... Grow up.

So I came home and crocheted and sewed and talked to Bryan.
That helped.

I read on the news that a town in Utah made it illegal for kids to have lemonade stands.
Say what?!
They then came out with a statement saying they are revoking it.
Good choice.

I am getting back in shape.  Very very slowly.
But i'm up to 2 miles.  Don't laugh if you see me waddling by.

Calling all Cooks!

I need some freezer meal recipes!  I tend to cook great for a couple weeks then I get lazy, so I need to plan ahead :)

If you have any recipes send the link or leave a comment!!

Thanks :)

First time for everything

Well, I did it.  I entered a craft in the Salt Lake County Fair!  Actually I entered three christmas stockings, and two baby quilts.  I'm not thinking i'll win a ribbon but I'm proud of just trying :)

I remember every year growing up when we would get out the Christmas decorations, I would see blue ribbons on the back of most of the cross stitch decorations, advent calendars, hand sewn wreaths, and other projects.  My mom won tons of blue ribbons for her crafts!! I am proud to say she is the one that taught me these skills and encouraged me to at least try to enter them!

come see them from August 10-13th!
