Manti Pageant

Saturday Bryan and I drove down to Manti to meet up with Denise and Chad and go to the Manti Pageant.  The drive down was beautiful!!  We love the small towns and the really cool old houses.  We got to the temple around 1:30 and had lunch with Denise and Chad then we got to do a session in one of the oldest temples!!  I had never been to a live session and we loved it. I understood it better and different things stood out to me. I loved thinking about the other people who have attended the temple before me and even those who helped build it.  It was very beautiful.

After the temple we saved our seats for the pageant then went to the little booths down the street and got lunch and snow cones!

We walked around main street, played card games, relaxed in the grass and had a great day hanging out until the pageant started at 9:30 that night.

It was an absolutly perfect day and we enjoyed every minute of it with such great friends.  I am so grateful to be apart of this gospel and enjoy the blessings of the temple, and to know that my Heavenly Father loves me.

Un Birthday

Story Time:
I was craving chocolate cake so I decided that we should celebrate my 1/2 birthday (June 22) and have chocolate cake. The 22nd was a crazy day so we decided not to do anything, and Bryan suprised me with my 1/2 birthday on Friday.

He wanted to make a cake for me, but he used a spring form pan instead of a cake pan (which we have).  The cake grew up the sides of the pan and then deflated in the middle.  No bueno.  So he cut off the growths and decided frosting would help.  He used a recipe call fool proof frosting.  Right....  our cocoa powder container was almost empty, so he only used about 2 Tbs instead of 1/4 cup.  (We had another container in the cupboard, but he didn't see it).  So it was a little less chocolatey than usual.  Bryan didn't realize that confectioners sugar was the same as powdered sugar (which we had), so he used granualted sugar instead.  The frosting was definitely sweet but tasted like sand.  To keep the frosting from sticking to the plastic wrap he cut the fire starters off the top of 12 matches and stuck them in the very, very dense cake (again, he didn't know we had toothpicks).

His birthday party planning will most definitely be memorable.  It was very thoughtful, and sooo funny.  Luckily, his back up plan was chocolate ice cream.  Good call :)

I think he just needs to get a little more familiar with the contents in our kitchen!

Rewards of nursing

A lot of people laugh when they hear that I am a urology nurse.  I laughed too when I first thought about it. I have really come to enjoy being a nurse, no matter what field I work in. I remember a few very sweet patients from my nursing home job.  Even though I thought the job itself was awful, I will remember those sweet patients.

But on Friday at work after taking care of a patient who we have seen multiple times and has had several surgeries, a very sweet thing happened.  He and his wife were just leaving around 5:30 that night, and he came up to me and gave me a huge bear hug!  Mind you he is much smaller than me and 71 years old.  he wrapped his little arms around me and said, "Thank you, Thank you Liz."  Which really sounded more like, "Tank you tank you Leeez."  But he was so grateful that we were taking care of him.  It softened my heart.  Even though I deal with getting peed on and all sorts of other things, it is so worth it to know that I am helping someone's grandma, or child, or family member who truly needs help.

5 Dollar Grass Walk

We tried to go to Utah Lake today for a picnic and to play in the water and see if there were any camping spots around.  We get to the ticket booth and its 10$ per car!  No way are we paying that much.  So we park outside and walk to a grassy area near the entrance.  A worker comes running out of her booth and says, "It costs 5$ to enter the park."  We look at each other and Bryan says, "It costs 5$ to walk on this grass?!"

We ditched that idea and walked along a bike path and ate our lunch along the path.  It was free, peaceful, and everything we saw after that we said that it costs 5$.  hee hee.

Starfish!

I saw on a blog how to make starfish out of salt dough.  I thought it would be a fun touch to our bathroom and also the new shelves we pained and put up!!

The dough was 1 cup of salt and 1 cup of flour mixed with 1/2 cup water.  It made 4 starfish with that amount of dough.
I shaped them out then let them dry overnight.

I added a thin coat of white paint so they weren't so yellow looking and set them up!

Bryan and I bought the shelves on saturday using our 50% off coupon for Hobby Lobby.  Woo hoo!  We painted the shelves out on the lawn.  Actually I held them and Bryan painted.  I got painted too.  We really like them!!

Welcome to Alaska

We wanted to add the feel of Alaska in our home, and our bathroom was lacking identity, so we made our bathroom an Alaska bathroom. For now its just fishy/light house, but everntually we'll gather some Alaska things.  All the things were got were 1/2 off at Hobby Lobby!  All we need now is a new shower curtain.

Ho Hum

Bryan is done with teaching until September.  Can you say jealous?  I can. Jealous. So I work everyday and he stays at home and eats popsicles.  Haha.  Lots of them! Oh yea, and he's doing a bit of grad school too :)  He does the discussions and posts and we both write the paper together.  We make a good team.

The weather is finally nice and we are going to the park a lot more to play games, throw a frisbee and have picnics.

I have a few more crafty ideas- so more posts coming your way.

Life is good.  We are happy, healthy, and really trying to have fun.
